Northern Ireland Chest Heart & Stroke marks its historic 1946 tuberculosis response roots with a spectacular evening in Derry.

Leading local health charity Northern Ireland Chest Heart & Stroke (NICHS) is marking a significant milestone - 80 years of supporting and improving the lives of people across Northern Ireland.

To mark this special achievement, the charity is inviting the public to join it for a memorable evening celebrating the impact NICHS has made over the past eight decades and the people who have made that impact possible.

Founded on June 14 1946 in response to the tuberculosis crisis at that time, Northern Ireland Chest Heart & Stroke was established with a simple belief that everyone deserves better health, better care and better chances in life.

Over the past eight decades the charity has adapted and evolved to meet the changing health needs of the population and today focuses on chest, heart and stroke conditions and illnesses - the leading causes of death and disability in Northern Ireland.

On Thursday, December 10 the charity will host an evening of inspiring personal stories and uplifting musical performances at the Guildhall, Derry to mark and reflect on all that has been achieved since the charity was formed 80 years ago.

Hosted by the ever-popular Hugo Duncan, the evening will include performances from Momentum Community Choir, a vibrant local choir that brings people together through a shared love of singing, and singer-songwriter Matthew Crampsey, a popular performer on the city’s thriving live-music scene.

The audience will also hear from local people affected by chest, heart and stroke conditions and of how NICHS has supported them, along with a special guest appearance from Andrew Clifford, known from BBC's Race Across the World, who will share how experiencing a heart attack changed his perspective on life.

This special event is not one to be missed and everyone is welcome. Admittance is free but places must be booked in advance by visiting nichs.org.uk/80thevents
