Unique walking group launched in Derry

A new walking group has been launched in Derry for people with a learning disability.
The Rossville Group launched their walking programme last week to encourage users to increase their physical activity levels.
The walking programme will run over the summer period.
The group will use a new resource called ‘Step by Step’, produced by the Public Health Agency to encourage and support adults with a learning disability to walk more.
The Western Health and Social Care Trust Health Improvement Department is working in partnership with the Rossville Group to promote the use of Step by Step.
The resource includes a pedometer and ‘step diary’ to help users count and record the number of steps they take each day. In order to maintain good health, it is recommended that adults take at least 10,000 steps per day.
