EcoLive: Gardening Club a great hit for Derry school pupils

Ecolive: Gardening Club a great hit for St John's Primary School pupils

Pupils in Saint John's Primary School have had a very busy first term.

The ECO Committee run by Mrs AM Darmody have harvested the Gardening Club's vegetables that they grew around the school last term.

They made some lovely vegetable soup. They also completed their first litter pick of Bligh's Lane as part of the 'Adopt a Spot' Eco school's project.

All the pupils in Saint John's PS have been trying hard to only bring in healthy breaks and lunch boxes and drink from reusable bottles only.

Their Year 7 pupils have taken total control of the blue and brown bin collections on a daily basis.

Year 7 pupils also manage their energy monitoring on a weekly basis.  If you haven't been putting your lights off, you run the risk of getting a Red bulb on your door.

Finally, they paired up with Mrs D Doherty class in Bligh's Lane Nursery and brought their apples that they grew over to be pressed.

They helped the younger children collect their apples and really enjoyed their morning with Gareth from ECO Schools making homemade apple juice.
