The City and District’s Mayor, Ruairi McHugh was on hand to present the final awards ceremony of the D&D Youth FA season on Friday night at the Waterfoot Hotel as the ladies teams came forward to accept their trophies.
League, Summer and Winter Cup winners in the 8-16 years-old groups received their trophies while individual awards including players of the year winners were also handed out on the night.
Speaking at Friday night’s finale, Mayor McHugh said he was delighted to attend the event and praised all the teams for their efforts throughout the year not only in winning trophies but keeping ladies’ football to the fore right across the city and district.
He also praised the D&D committee and their band of volunteers that keep not only ladies’ football but youth football alive, as well as mentioning the prestigious Foyle Cup which continues to grow from strength to strength each year.
‘Great credit to the people involved in Derry and District football. Their unwavering efforts don’t go unnoticed and the young people here before us tonight wouldn’t continue to excel in soccer if it weren’t for the superb work that goes on behind the scenes.
