Derry City FC has bolstered its squad with the signing of 20-year-old Henry Rylah, who joins the club on a season-long loan from Championship side Charlton Athletic.

The versatile right-sided player is highly rated by his parent club, having signed a contract extension last year that secures his future with Charlton until at least 2027.

Henry joined his new team-mates for last week’s training camp in Spain and says it was a great opportunity to spend quality time around the group.

“The boys made me feel very welcome and I settled in really quickly” he said.

“I’ve been at Charlton since I was 12 so that’s all I knew up ’til now. They’ve looked after me and it’s a great squad to be part of.

“We worked really hard all week in Spain. It was tough going but we know we have to get ready for the start of the new season.

“I’ve played in various positions in my career so far; wing-back, right side of a front three and also as a striker, so I’ll be ready to fit into whatever role the manager wants from me.

“I’ve heard that there’s a great atmosphere at the Brandywell and I can’t wait to start playing competitively.”

Manager, Tiernan Lynch said he was delighted to get the Londoner in ahead of the new season.

“Henry joined us at our training camp and he fitted in straight away.

“He’s got loads of energy and is capable of getting fans off their seats, and the fact that he is comfortable in a number of positions will also be a big help.

“Charlton have been very good to work with getting this deal over the line and I have no doubt that his time here can benefit all parties .”
