In a vote that reflects an outstanding individual season, Derry City FC's Michael Duffy has been named the 2025 PFA Ireland (PFAI) Player of the Year.

This highly respected award, determined by the votes of fellow professional players, acknowledges Duffy's exceptional performance and significant contribution to the Candystripes' campaign, which saw the club secure a European spot.

This is the second time the talented winger has received the prestigious accolade, following his win in 2018 while at Dundalk FC.

Duffy was instrumental in the Candystripes' successful 2025 campaign, finishing the season as the club's top scorer with 12 goals and leading the assist charts with 11. His outstanding performances were a driving force behind the team's strong league finish, securing a spot in European competition for next season.

The Derry City X (formerly Twitter) account shared the news, highlighting the achievement: “Congratulations to City's #7 on this well deserved award after a phenomenal season in Red & White!”

Duffy, who signed a new three-year contract extension with his hometown club in September, has been in exceptional form, with manager Tiernan Lynch stating his belief that Duffy is capable of playing for the Republic of Ireland national team. Duffy's on-field brilliance, including a run of match-winning goals, helped solidify his reputation as one of the League of Ireland's most influential players.

Duffy’s recognition by the PFAI follows his inclusion in the PFAI Team of the Year and is a testament to his consistent high-level performance throughout the season.
