Derry City have made their first signing of the summer with former Blackburn Rovers midfielder Jacob Davenport joining the club on a permanent deal.

The highly- rated 25-year old is a product of the Manchester City Academy where he played alongside Will Patching and Sadou Diallo. He has made over 50 appearances in the English Championship with Blackburn Rovers and Burton Albion, and 35 more in the EFL and FA cup, showing the type of quality our supporters can look forward to seeing.
Ruaidhri Higgins moved quickly to secure the player's signature once he had agreed to move from Morecambe with Jacob arriving in the City late on Friday night.
Jacob will be formally introduced at a press conference on Monday and will be available for selection after 1 July. Davenport is expected to be the first of a number of new arrivals at the Brandywell in the coming weeks. Cameron McJannet left the club to join Grimsby Town this week, and Ruaidhri Higgins admitted he will hope to add strength in every department of the pitch if possible.

“There's always one or two gems out there that you can get your hands on and I'm more confident now than I was a week ago," he explained. "We're down a few bodies in the midfield department for the foreseeable future, and we probably want another attacking option as well and one more defensive option. You've seen the quality (Cameron) Dummigan has shown when he slotted in the right back as well so he gives you real versatility as well but we are looking at probably one in every department.”
