Derry man, John Butcher, has raised over £3000 for Foyle Hospice after running four miles every fours over the course of four days to raise vital funds.

The funds continue to grow as the community continues to donate after John's incredible achievement.

The avid runner ran a total of 100 miles with very little sleep in the mammoth feat.

From 4 pm on February 22 to 4pm on February 26, John ran four miles every four hours.

John thanked the community for their support including the 45 runners who joined him on different legs of his journey.

John thanked everyone for their incredible support

John wrote: "Firstly thanks to everyone who has donated to the Foyle Hospice. Every penny is vital for the Hospice.

"Also thanks to the 45 runners who joined me over the four days. Your presence was most welcome and made all the miles so much easier.

"Again, at the finish line, thanks to the people who showed up to support me and to Mr Peter Jack for whipping the crowd into a frenzy - no better man for the job.

"Thanks also to Julie from Cafe Piazza for opening and for the very welcome hot chocolate at the end. An unforgettable experience that is not to be repeated."

Noel McMonagle, Fundraising Officer at Foyle Hospice, praised John’s dedication and thanked him for the generous donation.

“Foyle Hospice would like to say a huge thank you to John,” he said. “Running 100 miles on limited sleep within four days would not have been easy.

"It takes a great deal of commitment to get up and run four miles, every four hours for four days but we are delighted that John chose to take on this challenge to raise funds for Foyle Hospice.

"Every penny that John raised will help us continue to deliver specialist palliative care to the people of Derry and all throughout the North West.

"It will also help us support the families of our patients. Again, many thanks to John and everyone who helped him through the challenge and kindly donated.”
