'Forever Young': Foreglen and Dungiven mourn untimely passing of John McFeely

The late John McFeely.

Residents of Foreglen, Dungiven, and further afield were shocked and saddened to learn of the untimely passing of John McFeely in the early hours of Saturday, September 27, after an uphill battle with illness for the past few years.

John underwent gruelling treatment and faced many challenges and uncertainties throughout his sickness, always hoping beyond hope that he would recover fully. Unfortunately, John didn't get better. He was in and out of hospital frequently.

John's family were extremely supportive, proving to be a great source of comfort to him. His partner, Charlene, rarely left John's side, spending a great deal of time by his bedside.

They were all so attentive, just willing John would get better. John's close friends did what they could, always being there for him, to listen, to chat, to cry with him, and sometimes just to be there for him. John had a large circle of friends, including many from his schooldays, and they helped in any way they could to make things easier for him in his final months.

John appreciated the friendships he had and realised the importance of close friends.

His family was of utmost importance to him, Charlene and the children, his mum and dad, his sisters and brother and his nieces and nephews meant the world to him.

He was hardworking, honest, sincere, and very generous.

The huge numbers who attended the wake and funeral are testament to what a popular young man he was.

The funeral was a fitting tribute and the music, singing, readings, homily, prayers, and choice of gifts during the offertory were so appropriate.

Again, John's family and partner ensured that his friends were included as much as possible. In their grief, they still included as many friends as possible.

John was laid to rest in his beloved Foreglen.

He will never be forgotten as he lives on eternally. Too young to leave as he still had a lot of living to do but he will always be forever young.

Deepest sympathy to Dympna, Mickey, Catherine, Michelle, Mitch, and Charlene and family.

Their loss is immense as they face life without John, but he will always be close to them. Rest easy wee John, until we meet again.
