A 37-year-old facing multiple emergency worker charges avoids custody but faces a strict non-drinking mandate until November

A man who was allegedly the victim of an assault was found to have breached his bail conditions by being under the influence of alcohol.

Patrick White (37) of Old School Lane in Derry was due to appear next month charged with criminal damage in Altnagelvin Hospital, disorderly behaviour at the same venue and assaulting a police officer.

All of these offences were said to have occurred on October 8.

The court heard that October 18 police spoke to White in relation to an alleged assault where he was the alleged victim.

Police spoke to him in Waterloo Place and noticed he appeared to be over the limit in terms of alcohol.

A police officer said that this was the first breach of bail on these charges.

Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said that White had 'certain issues' with alcohol and has been treated for addiction problems.

District Judge Suzanne Rice said that she was going to 'tighten' the bail conditions by making a 'zero tolerance' condition as regards alcohol.

White will appear again on November 16.
