Bloody Sunday Trust to challenge Ireland’s corporate complicity in the Gaza Genocide.

As part of the International Day of Solidarity for Palestine, Derry’s Bloody Sunday Trust is hosting a conference examining “Ireland’s complicity in the ongoing genocide in Palestine”.
Chaired by author Fintan Drury, and with a panel of experts and activists, the conference will examine the complicity of Ireland’s government, key institutions and corporations in the genocide, and the repercussions they could face when this is eventually examined in an international court.
The event will take place in Destined, 1 Foyle Road, from 1.00pm to 4.00pm on November 28, 2026.
Trust Director Maeve McLaughlin said: “Drawing on the experiences of activists working across key campaigns against complicity, the conference will provide an opportunity to review progress, highlight actions to date, share lessons learned, and develop further ways to challenge corporate complicity and bring about accountability.
“The conference will be invaluable for those challenging Ireland’s role in the genocide and for those campaigning for an end to the genocide, for Palestine’s right to self-determination, for human rights, and for international law and social justice,” she added.
“The UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese recommends in her report, From Economy of Occupation to Economy of Genocide, that all sectors should: ‘promptly cease all business activities and terminate relationships directly linked with, contributing to and causing human rights violations and international crimes against the Palestinian people, in accordance with international corporate responsibilities and the law of self-determination.’
“The UN has repeatedly urged all States to fulfil their legal obligations under international law to end the genocide and punish those responsible for it.
“There is, therefore, a clear legal and moral imperative for organisations across all sectors to comprehensively review all economic ties with Israel, including business and finance, pension funds, academia and charities.
“Despite this Ireland remains the world’s second-largest importer of Israeli goods, the Dublin government fails to discharge its obligations under the Genocide Convention, military personnel and material transit unimpeded through Shannon, a de facto US military base, and Institutional Ireland maintains relationships with corporate entities that are complicit in genocide,” said Ms McLaughlin.
The UN has repeatedly urged all States to fulfil their legal obligations under international law to end the genocide and punish those responsible for it.
Chairperson of the Bloody Sunday Trust, Tony Doherty, said: “It is concentrated and co-ordinated action that prevents business-as-usual for the apartheid, genocidal state. And it will be through collective solidarity campaigns mobilising protest groups, civil society organisations, trade unions and local authorities that we remove Israel's impunity.
“Ireland claims to be anti-genocide, and indeed its people are proud and right to be so, but while the government in Dublin and the assembly in the north, and institutions like the GAA, IRFU and FAI, continue to ignore this, Ireland cannot properly claim to be anti-genocide,” added Mr Doherty.
The conference is supported by Rise for Palestine, who said: “Rise for Palestine Derry welcomes this opportunity to engage and collaborate with the Bloody Sunday Trust and other prominent campaigns and activists from across the Island of Ireland.
“For too long the Irish government has only paid lip service to its ‘support’ for Palestine, failing to properly hold Israel accountable for the genocide in Gaza and the apartheid regime imposed upon Palestinians. It’s just cosmetic actions and empty words.
“This conference is crucial after three years of genocide to learn from our collective experiences and prepare to escalate the pressure on state and corporate complicity to bring Israel's impunity to an end."
Representatives from key campaign groups will present papers at the conference. These include Micheál Madden, from Madden & Finucane Solicitors, Nollaig Ní Bhrollaigh from the Drop Allianz Campaign and Cairde Palestine, with other representatives to be announced.
