22-year-old ordered to stay sober and cut all contact with his former partner ahead of his next court date

A man has appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court following a breach of his bail conditions after contacting his former partner.

Callum Aiken (22) of Sutton Gardens in Derry was on bail for charges that included stalking, domestic abuse and harassment and had bail conditions that prohibited contact with his former partner.

On August 31, his former partner contacted police to report that Aiken had called her from a blocked number and she had quickly ended the call.

Police objected to bail as they believe there is a clear risk of reoffending.

Defence solicitor Keith Kyle said that the breach of bail had been accepted but said that there had been 'nothing threatening or sinister' in the phone call.

He added that Aiken had no record and had been on bail for around three months with this being his first breach.

Bail was granted with conditions that include no contact with the alleged injured party and he abstain from alcohol.

He will appear again on September 23.
