41-year-old admitted to charges of criminal damage and obstructing police

Derry Magistrate's Court heard today how a man who was 'very intoxicated' set off a fire extinguisher in a block of flats.

Daniel John Moran (41) of inch View in Derry admitted charges of criminal damage and obstructing police on August 1 this year.

The court heard that police were called to an incident where a man was banging on a door in a block 9f flats.

When they arrived they found Moran banging on a door and the landing and stairwell covered in white where the defendant had set off a fire extinguisher.

Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said that his client had no idea how he ended up where he did as he was very intoxicated.

He added that he believed he was looking for a party.

Mr MacDermott said that Moran had not been in trouble in the last six years and had been in employment until recently.

District Judge Suzanne Rice said that Moran had a record 'of some vintage'.

Moran was given a conditional discharge for a period of 18 months, fined £150 and ordered to pay £350 in compensation.
