Shantallow Post Office to reopen at SuperValu on Greenhaw Road
Public urged to share views on entry and layout for the incoming SuperValu branch before the August 25 deadline
The Shantallow Post Office is to reopen at Supervalu on Derry’s Greenhaw Road.
This will restore service to the community after the previous branch at The Northside Village Centre, Glengalliagh Road, Shantallow, closed in March 2026 due to the resignation of the postmaster.
Announcing the decision, a Post Office spokesperson said: “We are keen to restore service to this community as soon as possible, so we have decided to go ahead with our plans. The branch is due to open on Tuesday, October 20 at 1pm.
“The opening hours will be Monday to Saturday: 9am – 8pm; Sunday: 9am – 1pm. This will provide 70 hours of service per week for the convenience of customers.
“The new branch will be located approximately 0.8 miles away from the previous branch, along varied terrain.
“There is a customer car park at the new premises with dedicated disabled parking. There is also public transport available to and from the surrounding areas.
“A similar range of Post Office products and services will be available.
“This re-opening of the branch in a new location is a commercial decision for Post Office and we are not seeking feedback on this aspect of the change. However, we would welcome suggestions and feedback about access into and inside the new premises.

Sinn Féin Councillor Sandra Duffy has welcomed confirmation that Shantallow Post Office will reopen.
Councillor Duffy said: "It is welcome news that the Shantallow Post Office is set to reopen in October.
"It was important that this vital service remained open and continued to serve local residents.
"I wish the owners every success in this venture.”
