Western Trust proudly joined the global community in celebrating World Prematurity Day on November 17. The Trust extended its best wishes and support to all babies, past and present, who had received care in the Western Trust Neonatal units.
World Prematurity Day provided an opportunity to raise awareness about prematurity, and also recognise the difficulties parents and families face having a preterm baby on the Neonatal Unit and how this can be extremely stressful for them.
The Western Trust wished to express profound gratitude to all staff, past and present, working in Altnagelvin Hospital, Derry and South West Acute Hospital, Enniskillen who go above and beyond to care for these babies every day.
Their dedication and commitment to continuously improving care and empowering parents to take a lead in the care of their baby whilst on the Neonatal Unit is truly remarkable.
A special thanks was also extended to the Tinylife charity for their ongoing support to families during and after their hospital stay.
This year the Neonatal Team at the South West Acute Hospital hosted a special gathering to celebrate neonatal graduates and reconnect with other families who began their journey in the Neonatal Unit at St McCartan’s Cathedral Hall, Enniskillen.
The Neonatal Team at Altnagelvin Hospital hosted a celebration event for neonatal graduates and their families on Sunday, November 16 2025 to mark World Prematurity Day.
The staff of The Neonatal Unit in Altnagelvin paid thanks to everyone who took the time to come and visit them for The World Prematurity Day Tea Party. Their smiles and support made the day extra special!
A special word of thanks was also extended for all the kind donations received from the following companies: Millennium Forum; Buzznberry Limavady; Robinsons Concrete Claudy; Bbold Tan; Extreme Bounce; Brunswick; Roe reformers Pilates; Doherty's Bakery; Oh Papi; Debutots West NI; and Rachel (Colour Me Beautiful).
