IN PICTURES: Don Boscos FC pay tribute after youth player Kían Dawson-Kirk's death

Prior to weekend games the club paid tribute to Kían across all age groups

Derry junior football side Don Boscos Football Club have paid tribute to a young player following his recent death.

Kían Dawson-Kirk (16), a player in their 2007 group since the age of five, sadly passed following a road traffic accident in Donegal last month.

The club described the teenager as 'the most genuine, well mannered and unassuming young lad you could meet'.

All Don Boscos club activities including training and matches had been called off following news of Kían's death.

Prior to weekend games Don Boscos Football Club paid tribute to Kían across all age groups.

On a post on social media at the weekend, the club said: “After what's been an incredibly sad few weeks for our club we just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who sent messages of support and condolences after the loss of Kían.

“Thanks to the management and staff of all the facilities we use, for allowing us to suspend our activities for that week at short notice.

“Thanks to our own Derry and District Youth FA member clubs for their generosity, and for accommodating us in rearranging games that were to take place that week.

“A special thanks to Michael Hutton and the Derry & District Youth FA committee who were always on hand to to advise, and also to help with the rearranging of both D&D and National legaue games.

“Thanks to the coaches and players of Moyola Park FC for the kind words and minutes silence in the first game our 2007 group played after Kían's passing.

“Messages came from not just the football community but from across all sporting clubs and organisations. Thank you all so much.

“Like everyone, the thoughts and prayers of all at Don Boscos remain with Emmett, Fiona and Abaigael.”
