Irish Doctors Orchestra to play concert for Foyle Search and Rescue

The all-Ireland Irish Doctors Orchestra will play Guildhall Derry on Sunday, November 30 to raise funds for Foyle Search and Rescue.  Founded during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Irish Doctors Orchestra is an all-Ireland fellowship of medical professionals who are also classically trained musicians.

The charity partner for this performance, Foyle Search and Rescue is a registered, voluntary based search and rescue charity, operating in Derry and set up by local people in 1993 with a goal of reducing the numbers of suicides through drowning.

They work closely with other public and community bodies to patrol the river and operate an emergency pager crew who are on call 24hrs per day. They also Facilitate the North West Bereaved by Suicide Support Group for families and friends who have lost a loved one to suicide and are involved in education on water safety and suicide awareness within the local community.

Dr Eoghan Ferrie, a founding orchestra member and Consultant in Emergency medicine based in Belfast highlights what attendees at Guildhall can expect on the night: "The Irish Doctors Orchestra have a wonderful programme of music in store for our upcoming concert in Derry on November 30.

“As well as Sibelius Finlandia and the glorious 5th Symphony from Tchaikovsky, we are delighted to be joined on stage with Codetta Choir and Charlotte O'Hare for Poulenc's Gloria.  We are also thrilled to have Sinead Hayes once again conducting us for this performance."

Commentating on their charity partner, Foyle Search and Rescue, he continues: “The work of our charity partner, Foyle Search and Rescue, is known only too well by many of those working in the Health Sector in the North West.

“Through their work patrolling the river and providing education around water safety and suicide awareness, their work is invaluable to supporting those who live in the local areas around the River Foyle.  We hope the funds raised from this performance will continue to support their vital work.”

ChristinaMcKeegan, Charity Manager, Foyle Search and Rescue adds: “We are incredibly grateful to be chosen as the charity partner for this event. The support we receive allows our volunteers to continue their life-saving work along the River Foyle - offering patrols, education, and support to those in crisis.

“Every donation helps us protect the most vulnerable in our community, and we are deeply thankful for this recognition and generosity.”
