Met Éireann weather forecast for the week is in and makes two brutal predictions

Met Éireann has delivered two bouts of bad news to Irish sunseekers hoping for a return of the recent warm weather this week.

In its latest update, Met Éireann predicts miserable weather for Ireland for this week and into the June Bank Holiday weekend.

Their forecast for Monday says: "Scattered showers and some sunny spells at first this morning but becoming cloudy and wet as outbreaks of rain move eastwards across the country through the day. The rain will turn heavy at times during the late afternoon and evening. Highest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees in a moderate to fresh southwest to west wind, becoming strong at times towards Atlantic coasts.

"Rain will clear from the east early tonight and will be followed by clear spells and scattered showers, mainly over the northern half of the country. Another spell of rain will move into the southwest later in the night. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 11 degrees with moderate to fresh westerly winds, becoming southerly and light overnight."

The Met Éireann forecast for the rest of the week continues:

"It will become wet tomorrow [Tuesday] morning as rain extends across the country from the southwest. The rain will clear eastwards during the afternoon but it will stay generally cloudy with some showers. Highest temperatures of 10 to 14 degrees over the northern half of the country, with light variable winds, and 14 to 18 degrees further south with moderate to fresh westerly winds.

"Scattered showers with a mix of cloud and clear spells [Tuesday night]. Mist and patches of fog too. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 11 degrees, coldest in the north, with light to moderate westerly or variable winds.

"Sunny spells and scattered showers at first [on Wednesday]. Cloud will increase and rain will spread northeastwards across most of the country during the afternoon and evening. Highest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees with light to moderate westerly winds, becoming southerly.

"Breezy and wet with rain followed by showers [overnight]. Lowest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees with fresh south to southwest winds.

"Breezy and blustery with sunny spells and scattered showers [on Thursday]. Highest temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees with fresh to strong and gusty southwest to west winds.

"It will become mostly dry with clear spells on Thursday night as showers become isolated. Winds will ease and temperatures will fall to between 6 and 10 degrees.

"A dry start to the day [on Friday] with some hazy sunny spells, with rain then moving in across southern areas. Highest temperatures of 14 to 16 degrees with light to moderate southerly winds."

They conclude by saying "current indications suggest that unsettled weather will continue for the weekend with spells of rain and showers."
