GAA: John O'Dwyer to stay on as Derry senior camogie manager

John O'Dwyer will stay on as Derry senior camogie manager, it has been confirmed. The former Tipperary and Derry hurler was appointed in January 2018 season on a one year term. Along with his management team of Gerard McCloskey and Movita Gallagher, O'Dwyer will take the reigns for an additional year. Derry were beaten by Down in the UIster Final this season but were unbeaten in the All-Ireland Championship. Derry drew with Down, Cork and Laois, before beating Carlow on the dramatic last weekend, but Down's late goal in Laois saw the Mourne girls qualify along with Cork for the All-Ireland semi-finals. "I am looking forward to it and we have been appointed in good time this year so we can have a look at all the games in the club championship and see if there are any girls we have missed," O'Dwyer told the County Derry Post. "We are always looking to improve - even ourselves as a management team - to make it even more professional. We know we are not far away but we need to get another five or ten per cent to get back to Croke Park." The former Killenaule clubman feels Derry need a bigger squad to absorb injuries and players being unavailable during the season. O'Dwyer has already spoken to former Antrim player Shannon Graham who is now eligible to play for Derry. Among others in his thoughts is Offaly's Tina Hannon who also plays Slaughtneil. "We are happy with the girls we have got on board at the minute. We are not looking to replace players, we are looking to see if we can get five or six players to complement what we already have." Ballerin play Glenullin in the junior final on Friday night, with the senior and intermediate competitions set to start in mid-Setpember.
