Sinn Fein's Creggan office
Sinn Féin in Derry has been warned of a planned attack on its offices in the city over the Easter period, the party’s Council Group Leader, Christopher Jackson had said.
Cllr. Jackson commented: “The PSNI have relayed to Sinn Féin that it has information that so-called dissident republicans are planning an attack on one of our party offices in Derry over Easter.
“While we obviously have to take this seriously, we will in no way be deterred by such threats.
“Neither will the irony be lost on the people of Derry that these people, who claim to be republicans, are plotting an attack on the one party which is actually leading the drive towards a new and United Ireland. Perhaps that says more about their real motivations and who is directing them.”
Cllr. Jackson added: “The people of Derry see these gangs for what they really are because they see the criminality, the extortion, the thuggery and the anti-community activity they are engaged in on a daily basis.
“They should drop the pretence of being republicans. They should get off the backs of the community and they should let those of us who are serious about the business of reuniting our country get on with it.”
The PSNI has been approached for comment.
