ALL of Erin’s Own Lavey’s might was not enough to stop Claremorris reaching their first ever All-Ireland club final by two points this afternoon.
The winners converted and missed several goal chances and could have been out of sight at half-time when they lead by seven points.
However, Lavey fought back in a goal-filled third quarter and held the victors scoreless in a nervy final quarter where they narrowed the gap back to two.
Despite the yellow-card dismissal of Mayo Minor Alana Fitzpatrick, the Ulster champions were unable to find the winning score in a game with tonnes of thrills and spills.
Claremorris began the game at 100 miles an hour, scoring 2-2 in the opening five minutes, with Nina Wallace scoring and Rebecca Kean assisting both.
The Derry girls did get six points through Carla Collins (two frees), Sinéad McGill, Maria Rafferty and Aoife Shaw (two frees) before Claremorris captain Laura Kelly buried the ball in the roof of the net in the 25th minute.
Lavey were back into contention eight minutes after the restart when the impressive Catriona Toner and Aoife Shaw landed lucky goals.
Their efforts briefly levelled matters before Claremorris replied with two superb goals from teenagers Bree Hession and Ashleagh Sammon.
The hosts failed to score after the 42 minute as Lavey wore them down through efforts from points from Carla Collins (three frees) and Aoife Shaw.
Lavey also saw a fisted Sinéad McGill effort ruled out through a square ball just before Sammon got the winners’ fifth goal.
In the end, Lavey’s exploits failed to stop Claremorris book an All-Ireland final date with O’Donavan Rossa from Cork on December 17.
