A man has been extradited from Northern Ireland to stand trial for murder in Romania.
Officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s International Policing Unit, working in partnership with Romanian authorities have extradited the 35-year-old man on Tuesday following the completion of proceedings.
He was wanted to stand trial for aggravated murder and two offences of aggravated robbery allegedly committed in the Sibiu area of Romania on November 6 2023.
The man was arrested in the Belfast area on November 18 2023.
Sergeant Davey from the PSNI’s International Policing Unit said: “The Police Service of Northern Ireland continues to work with our international partners to identify and arrest those wanted in other jurisdictions.
“In this case we worked closely with authorities in Romania, the National Crime Agency, UK Border Agency and An Garda Siochana to locate and arrest this subject.
“If fugitives travel to Northern Ireland to avoid the consequences of their crimes it is only a matter of time before they are arrested and brought before the extradition courts.
“Our message is clear that we will relentlessly pursue those that are trying to delay or deny justice to victims of crime.”
