Police appeal after arson at former school site in Co Londonderry

An appeal for information has been made following an arson attack at the site of a former school in Co Londonderry.

Police said significant damage was caused to the building at the Lisneal College site in Drumahoe following the fire.

At the peak of the blaze on Sunday night, the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service said there were 50 firefighters in attendance.

Police said they were called to the scene on Drumahoe Road shortly after 9pm.

The fire was extinguished shortly before midnight.

“Fortunately, there have been no reports of any injuries. However, there has been significant damage to the building as a result of the blaze,” a police spokesperson said.

“The fire is being treated as arson and we’re appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and saw any suspicious activity, or has any information, to contact us.”
