Alexa Chung and Caitriona Balfe attend JW Anderson’s catwalk show

The stars were out in force for the JW Anderson show on day two of London Fashion Week.

Fashion icon Alexa Chung looked ready for autumn in a brown faux fur tasselled cape, oversized white shirt and blue jeans.

Irish actor Caitríona Balfe, who stars in historical drama Outlander, was also on the front row. The Dublin-born Golden Globe nominee looked stylish in a black strapless top and trousers.

British actors Ben Whishaw and Kit Connor mingled before the show, which was held at Camden’s Roundhouse theatre.

Other fashionable attendees included model and actor Suki Waterhouse and model Mia Regan (girlfriend of Romeo Beckham).

Fashion editors Anna Wintour and Edward Enninful chatted on the front row as they waited for the Magherafelt-born designer’s show to start.

Jonathan Anderson sent out an array of characteristically quirky designs for his eponymous SS24 collection.

The invitation for the show was a block of modelling clay which hinted at what was to come on the catwalk.

The 38-year-old – who is also creative director at Spanish fashion house Loewe – appeared to be inspired by streetwear for his womenswear show, with hoodies featuring prominently.

Some were baggy and oversized, while others were made of clay and had ‘hunched up’ shoulders.

There were even shorts made from clay – but it’s unlikely these avant-garde garments will make it into the shops when the collection goes on sale next year.

The street theme continued with skater-style cargo trousers with low waistbands and puffed hems.

The fluid trousers were teamed with mannish blazers and oversized bomber and biker jackets.

Anderson mixed traditionally masculine and feminine elements, with most models wearing trousers or shorts, except for a few slinky dresses with cut-out details, and some strappy crochet minidresses in bright red and blue.

The colour palette was a mix of subdued beige, blue and brown tones, mixed with acid brights, like orange and yellow.

Playing with proportions, Anderson added huge circular hoops to skirts (positioned at the hip rather than the hem) and added bursts of feathers to bomber jackets.

There was also a focus on interesting textures, with wet-look leather and nylon alongside the matte clay, plus skirts woven from strips of sparkly fabric.
