Commissioner urges victims of crime to complete 'Your Voice Matters' survey

Have you been a victim of crime in Northern Ireland? Now is your chance to be heard.

The Commissioner Designate for Victims of Crime has urged all victims of crime to complete the Victim Survey, which is open until 22 December 2025.

This year’s survey comes at a time when hate crime in Northern Ireland has reached record levels, underscoring the urgent need to hear directly from victims about their experiences with the criminal justice system.

The survey is the only one of its kind open to victims of all crime types, including hate crime, domestic abuse, sexual violence, fraud, and more.

The insights gathered will help the Commissioner’s Office understand the issues facing victims, provide crucial insight for policy makers and help drive change to make sure victims are supported in the future.

Commissioner Designate for Victims of Crime Geraldine Hanna said: “Every victim’s voice matters. Whether a case was reported or not, victim’s voices help us build a justice system that truly works for everyone.

“The rise in hate crime is deeply troubling and highlights the importance of listening to victims.

“This survey is a vital opportunity for anyone affected by any type of crime to share their story and help shape a justice system that is responsive, inclusive, and fair.

“I’ve spoken to victims who have told me how powerful it is for them to be able to use their experience, good or bad, to make change. Your experience can help drive that change.”

The survey is open to:

• Victims who have reported any crime in the last five years
• Victims who have experienced any crime in the last five years but did not report it
• Victims who have reported a historical crime in the last five years
