Irish TikToker calculates cost of everyday household electrical items with surprising results
An Irish tiktoker has gained over 200k views with his handy and informative videos on the cost of everyday electrical items.
Darren OConnor (@havinthecraic) has shared clips on the popular video sharing app about everything from solar panel advice to breakdown of electricity bills, but his latest videos have caught the attention of many followers as everyone is looking for ways to keep their electricity bills to a minimum.
Using an energy monitor plug, Darren OConnor tests consumption of everyday electrical items to let viewers know exactly how much they are spending.
In the first video, using a unit rate of 35 cent per unit, the dishwasher is put to the test.
On the intensive mode, it worked out as 42 cents for a full run, whereas on the eco setting, it worked out as 33 cent.
The Ninja airfryer was up next, on full for 14 minutes it worked out at approximately 8 cent, while a soup maker costs about 7 cent to run.
The Wifi extender came in at just 2 cent a day while the Alexa Dot costs just 1 cent to run overnight.

The second video showed a fridge on full power for 24 hours cost 14 cent, while the freezer came in a little more expensive at 30 cent for the same amount of time .
The hairdryer at half heat was coming in at approximately 5 cent for 10 minutes and at full heat it was 9 cent for the same time. The Dyson hair dryer however was costing just 1 cent for 10 minutes.
Two cups of water boiled in the kettle was coming in at just under 3 cents whereas a full kettle was costing 15 cents.
The Playstation, which was surprising says Darren, was coming in at just 4 cents an hour, to which he says "Give your kids a break".
