Woman hospitalised after being struck by lightning inside her home
AN WOMAN was hospitalised on Tuesday after being struck by lightning inside her home in the midlands.
The terrifying incident reportedly happened during one of the powerful thunderstorms that swept over the country on Tuesday.
Offaly forecaster Cathal Nolan posted about the incident on Ireland's Weather Channel wishing the woman a speedy recovery after her 'terrifying ordeal'.
He sent a message of thanks to the quick thinking health professionals at the doctor's surgery in Birr for their rapid treatment in what was their first ever lightning strike case.
He added that the powerful storms are a reminder of the sheer force of nature and the destructive potential of severe thunderstorms.
He continued, "Lightning, large hail, strong winds and even tornadoes were all reported in yesterday’s storms. Thunderstorms will again develop today, though more so across the west and southwest of the country where they again could be severe. More widespread storms are possible tomorrow and Friday."
The Kildare Weather Facebook page is reporting that the woman was hit by lightening inside her home.
Relaying a message from a follower, the post states that the lightning struck the outside tap and traveled in to the sink and she was making a cup of coffee and it struck her. It details how the lightning burnt through her shoes which luckily had rubber soles.
