Suspended sentence for Derry woman convicted of £45k benefit fraud

A woman has been convicted at Derry Crown Court for fraudulently claiming over £45,000 in benefits.

Lorraine Mullen (48) of Duncreggan Road, Derry claimed Universal Credit totalling £45,635 whilst failing to declare capital. She was given a sentence of 140 hours’ community service.

The fraud was uncovered following an investigation by the Department for Communities.

Ms Mullen is also required to repay any outstanding monies wrongfully obtained to the Department.

Suspected benefit fraud can be reported to the Department for Communities anonymously.
