Ballymena Magistrates Court.
A Coleraine angler was convicted today at Coleraine Magistrates Court residing at Ballymena Magistrates Court for several fishing offences and fined a total of £240, which included a £15 offender levy.
Mr. James McAfee (41) of Lisnablagh Road, Coleraine, Co. Derry pleaded guilty to three Breaches of legislation and fisheries regulations prescribed under the Fisheries Act (Northern Ireland) 1966, namely possession of fish of unlawful capture (salmon trout), Use of any method of angling other than catch and release and possession of a wild salmon or sea trout without a tag affixed.
On the 23 April 2022 DAERA Inland Fisheries Protection Officers were on routine patrol of the Lower Bann Estuary when they observed Mr. McAfee angling, when they first approached to complete a check of his fishing license one dead sea trout was observed after the check of the fishing license was complete the dead sea trout had been moved out of view and placed under an umbrella Mr. McAfee was using. The dead sea trout and one fishing rod was then seized as evidence.
The total fine of £240 consisted of fines of £75 for each offence along with an offender levy of £15.
