Derry Court adjourns case of man charged with theft of thousands of pounds of ink cartridges from Tescos

Defendant claims not to be in country at time of theft

A man charged with the theft of thousands of pounds of ink cartridges from Tescos has denied being in the North when one of the thefts occurred.

Arunas Lescauskas (28) with an address at Tamer Road, Seaford in Lincolnshire in England faced five charges of the theft of ink cartridges on March 3 and November 14 this year.

He is also charged with breaching a deportation order on dates between November 1 and November 15.

The defendant is also charged with obstruction on November 14.

When the theft charge was put to him via an interpreter he said he could not have committed a theft in March as he was not even in the country at the time.

District Judge Barney McElholm said that the case would be adjourned to see if it could be confirmed that the defendant was not here at the time.

Lescauskas, who is currently in custody, will appear again on December 29.
