Magherafelt Magistrates Court.
A 21-year-old man living with friends in a 'party house' was found in possession of Class A and Class B drugs, a court has heard.
Finn Wright, of Ronan Court, Magherafelt, appeared at Magherafelt Magistrates Court last week and entered guilty pleas to three charges of drugs possession.
The court heard how a mobile police patrol had attended a house in Magherafelt after receiving a report from the member of the public at around 10.00pm on December 13 2021.
After identifying the defendant, they noted a strong smell of herbal cannabis at the premises and observed a quantity of the drug on the table, along with other drugs paraphernalia.
The defendant told police the items were his, and told police there was a quantity of MDMA and magis mushrooms in his bedroom as well.
Wright was arrested for possession of Class A, B and C drugs and police subsequently seized 8.4g of cannabis, 12.4g of magic mushrooms and 3.6g of MDMA, with an estimated value of £135.
Defence for Wright said he had begun living with friends at an address in Magherafelt which had developed a reputation as a 'party house', but that he had since moved back to live with his mum.
They told the court he was currently in employment, but struggling with his mental health and that he had sought counselling as a result.
Judge Mullan addressed Wright, saying that although he suffered from poor mental health, mind-altering drugs were 'not the answer', and that they in fact exacerbated the problem.
She imposed fines totalling £500 on the defendant and issued a destruction order for the drugs.
“Let this be a lesson to you,” she added.
