A Derry woman has been fined and banned after admitting road traffic offences, at Ballyshannon District Court.

Caroline Moore, 53, Barrs Lane, Hazelbank, Derry admitted charges of dangerous driving and drunk driving at Main Street, Bundoran on October 31 last year.

Garda Inspector Seamus McGonigle said gardaí came upon a road traffic accident at Main Street, Bundoran. One car was sideways across the road and three cars were damaged in the collision.

The defendant was sitting in a car and was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.

She gave a subsequent urine reading of 165mcgs of alcohol.

Defence Solicitor Rory O’Brien said the defendant made an early plea and was co-operative with gardaí.

She had no previous convictions and was a 53-year-old mother and grandmother and had never been in court before.

The defendant had been coming to Bundoran for the past 30 years and it was like a second home.

Her plea had saved the State a lot of time, the solicitor added.

It was an unfortunate incident and the defendant wanted to apologise for what happened.

On the charge of dangerous driving, Judge Sandra Murphy fined the defendant £200stg which was in court for bail.

She fined the defendant €250 and banned her from driving for two years on the drunk driving charge.
