50 years on: Derry All-Ireland minor champions to be honoured

The All-Ireland Minor Football Semi-Final
The first Derry team to win an All-Ireland minor football title 50 years ago is to be honoured next month. The county minor panel and mentors, who won the Tom Markham Cup for the first time when they defeated Kerry on a scoreline of 2-08 to 2-04 in 1965, are to be honoured at the Ulster Championship minor and senor games between Derry and Down at Celtic Park on 7 June. The team that made history on 26 Septembe 1965 was E McCaul, A Burke, T Quinn, M Kelly, C Mullen, M McAfee, A McGuckian, T Diamond, S Lagan, B Mullen, M Niblock, E Coleman, S Kearney, S McCluskey, P Friel. A 50th anniversary banquet will be held that evening in the City Hotel at 6.00pm. This event in the City Hotel is open to anyone who wishes to attend. Tickets are priced at £30 and can be purchased at the Derry G.A.A.
