Study to examine how River Foyle can be enhanced for better recreation and leisure use

An innovative study is to be carried out examining how the River Foyle can be better used for recreation and leisure. By enhancing the river walkways and looking at ways to use the river itself the Public Health Agency (PHA) hopes to promote better health and wellbeing. The study into a creative solution will be done in collaboration with the Royal College of Art and Design (RCA) in London, and particularly the RCA’s research facility, the Helen Hamlyn Centre. A spokesman for PHA said: “The study will consider how the redesign of current river walkways can be enhanced so as to include the use of technology and the creative arts in a manner which will change the perceptions of the river and change the environment to one that promotes physical activity, creativity and learning. “There is also potential for income generation and promotion of positive health and social wellbeing messages.”
