Inspirational Charlene’s memory kept alive at Steelstown Brian Ogs GAC

A Derry GAA club is continuing to keep alive the memory of an inspirational young woman. Charlene Griffiths (pictured), a 27-year-old Irish school teacher from the Steelstown area, died in January 2012 following an eight-month battle with cancer. She had been captain of the Steelstown Brian Ogs ladies team and was also heavily involved in various other aspects of the club. She was also a trampolining and cheerleading tutor and had taught at the bunscoil in Steelstown.. A former pupil of Thornhill College, she studied Irish at the University of Ulster in Coleraine. Following Charlene’s death, the Steelstown club set up a summer camp for children in her memory. The latest camp,catering for children aged 8-14, was held at the club’s Ballyarnett base this week. As well as sporting activities, the children also took part in music and Irish language activities to reflect subjects which were close to Charlene’s heart.
