Two of Derry's most popular bars have been sold - to the owners of another popular Derry nightspot. Wetherspoon has sold The Diamond pub (pictured) and The Ice Wharf pub in Strand Road, both in Derry. They are two of five Northern Ireland pubs that the company has sold to The Granny Annie’s Group. They will continue to run them as pubs and staff at the pubs will be transferred to the new owner so there will be no job losses. Wetherspoon founder and chairman Tim Martin said that their customers would be 'disappointed' with the decision to the sell the bars. “We understand that our loyal customers at The Diamond and The Ice Wharf will be disappointed with the decision to sell the pubs," he said. “However, as a company we have to make commercial decisions and it was decided to sell the pubs.”
