TV star Davina McCall has revealed that her father is a Derry man. The popular presenter said her father, Andrew, was born in Derry in 1942 while his parents lived in the city. His parents worked with the British Army and did not remain based in Derry for long. However, in an interview with the Sunday Life today, Davina says she is proud of her Northern Irish roots. “My dad was born in Londonderry in 1942,” she told the paper. “He didn’t live there for long, but his parents were in the army in Northern Ireland so he was born there.” The TV star said that her dad’s birthplace caused a few issues in later life. “It’s quite funny because when we were children and we were going anywhere in the car, especially on the ferry, we were stopped and asked for ID. “They saw that my dad was from Northern Ireland, so he always got questioned. “Obviously, it’s different now, but he was born in Londonderry and his surname was McCall, so people asked questions.” Davina said she would love to explore her father’s birthplace and others parts of Northern Ireland. For the full interview, see today’s Sunday Life.
