Council announces service arrangements for Christmas and New Year holiday periods... what day will your bin be collected?

Derry City and Strabane District Council has announced its service arrangements over the Christmas holiday period. The main council office buildings in Derry and Strabane will be closed on December 26th, 27th and 28th and on 2nd January. There will be some minor changes to bin collections across the district, and householders will be informed of this via special bin stickers which they should look out for in the coming days. These changes will affect homes with collections on a Monday, with no collections on Monday December 26 and St Stephen’s Day. The public should be aware that these collections will now take place on Christmas Eve. Recycling centres across Derry and Strabane will also close early at 3.00pm on Christmas Eve. Leisure centres, including Foyle Arena, Templemore Sports Complex, Brooke Park, Riversdale, Melvin Park and Derg Valley will all close on the 24th, 25th, 26th December with early closure from 2.00pm on 31st December and centres remaining closed on January 1st. The City Baths at William Street will be closed until January 3rd. For a full list of updated opening times please refer to the website www.derrystrabane.com/openinghours The district’s parks will remain open as usual and maintain regular hours over the holiday period, subject to weather conditions. History buffs should note that the Tower Museum, Guildhall and Harbour House will all be closed on the following dates - 24th, 25th26th December and New Year’s Day. Regular visitors to the cemeteries across the district will still have access as they will remain open daily as usual from 9.00am to 4.30pm.For anyone wishing to register births or deaths the District Registrar’s Offices will be closed on Monday, 26th, Tuesday 27th and Wednesday, 28th December 2016 for Christmas and also Monday, 2nd January .. The District Registration Service will however be available over the Christmas and New Year Holidays for Emergency Death Registration. Local funeral directors are aware that they can make contact via the Office Out of Hours mobile number. This call out service is available for family who need to register a death immediately for either cremation purposes or removal of the body outside of the jurisdiction.
