One of Derry's best known driving instructors has passed away.

Cormac Wilson passed away at the weekend aged 65 after battling a long illness.

Mr Wilson was from the Bishop Street area of the city and was also known for his charity work with St Vincent De Paul.

Earlier this year he was honoured for his 33 years service with the charity at an award ceremony in Belfast (pictured).

He will be laid to rest on Tuesday morning from St Columba's Church, Long Tower.

Mr Wilson is survived by his wife Rosaleen, seven children and nine grand-children.

Former Foyle MP Mark Durkan paid tribute to Mr Wilson calling him a "lovely man who didn't have to ask "who is my neighbour?" but asked & answered "how can I help my neighbour?".

"He was a great servant of Saint Vincent de Paul. Underlying his caring warmth was passion for justice & compassion for human dignity.

"Condolences to Rosaleen, family & SVP."
