Joanne Ferry: 'Her kindness, passion, and generosity of spirit left a lasting impact on everyone she worked with'.
Joanne Ferry (née McIntyre) will be remembered as a “dedicated and committed” coach to the girls’ teams of Doire Trasna CLG in Derry’s Waterside.
Originally from Ballerin in County Derry, Joanne, who died peacefully at Foyle Hospice on Monday (April 13, 2026), had made her home in the city.
She was the beloved wife of Adrian and much adored mother of Erin; the beloved daughter of Phyllis and the late Joey; loving sister of Seamus, Gregory, Marisa (Mullan) and Cormac; daughter-in-law of Willie and Eileen Ferry; and a cherished sister-in-law, aunt and friend to many.
Joanne’s family has said that everyone is welcome to call at the family home, 69, Prehen Park, BT47 2PB, on Tuesday from 5.00pm to 10.00pm and Wednesday from 12 noon to 10.00pm. Family time will be observed after this.
Joanne’s funeral will take place from her home on Thursday at 10.15am for 11.00am Requiem Mass in Church of the Immaculate Conception, 10B, Trench Road, Derry, BT47 3UB.
Joanne has requested those attending the funeral wear their club or county GAA tops if possible.
In an online tribute posted to Joanne on Tuesday, Doire Trasna CLG said: “It is with deep sadness that we learned this morning of the passing of our coach, Joanne Ferry.
“Joanne was a dedicated and committed coach to our girls’ teams, and someone who always held the best interests of our players close to her heart.
“She was immensely proud of the girls and took great joy in seeing their development, with the ladies team taking to the field for their first game in November being a particularly proud and special moment for her.
“Her kindness, passion, and generosity of spirit left a lasting impact on everyone she worked with.
“We extend our sincere condolences to Adrian, Erin, and the wider family and friends of Joanne. You are all in our thoughts and prayers at this incredibly difficult time.
“Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.”
Extending his condolences to Joanne’s family and friends, Brian McNicholl said: “I loved having the craic with Joanne in our youthful days. She was one in a trillion, always had time for everyone, always had a smile”.
Margaret Kelly added: “This is the saddest news. Joanne coached both my girls and they have lovely fond memories of her. God bless her soul. Sending love and prayers to the family”.
