Man who put his mother under 'extreme pressure' by domestic abuse jailed

Derry Magistrates' Court

A man who put his mother under 'extreme pressure' by domestic abuse has been jailed at Derry Magistrates' Court.
Yesil Hassan (22) of Riverview Apartments in Derry admitted a series of charges including domestic abuse and a number of criminal damage charges that occurred on various dates in 2025.
The court heard that the injured party, the defendant's mother, reported to police that she was facing 'ongoing domestic abuse' involving her son.
She told police she felt under pressure to give in to her son's demands and she was 'frightened and nervous' of him.
The woman told police she could not give an opinion that was unacceptable to Hassan 'in case he got into a rage' and this had been going on for some time.
Defence counsel Stephen Chapman said that the defendant had been bailed to her address and there had been no incidents.
Hassan was jailed for eight months.
