The operation resulted in a number of Fixed Penalty Notices, both endorsable and non-endorsable.
Officers from Strabane Neighbourhood Team conducted a proactive operation in the local area on Friday, March 20 as part of ongoing road safety efforts.
Working alongside the Driver & Vehicle Agency (DVA), the operation was to raise awareness among drivers that every time they get in their vehicle, they do all they can to make sure it’s safe, and they play their part in keeping everyone on the road safe. It was also an opportunity, through visible patrolling, to engage with drivers while taking enforcement action as required.

The operation, which included vehicle check points in the Ballymagorry, Strabane, Castlederg and Clady areas, resulted in a number of Fixed Penalty Notices, both endorsable and non-endorsable, issued to drivers for detections in relation to, for example, no insurance, defective tyres, vehicle in a dangerous condition, excessive tints and incorrect form of registration. Three vehicles were seized - two for not being insured and a third for being found in a dangerous condition.
Sergeant Johnston said: “We are committed to keeping our roads safe, and that includes ensuring vehicles are roadworthy. We will continue, along with partner agencies, to do all we can to make sure every vehicle on our roads safe, and is driven by an insured, licensed driver.

“We will continue to hold these type of operations as we are committed to keeping our roads safe and that includes ensuring vehicles on the road are roadworthy.
“Our ask to drivers is help keep our roads safe and avoid the ‘fatal five’ – don’t drink or take drugs and drive; slow down; don’t be careless; always wear your seat belt and never use your mobile phone while driving.”
