The John and Pat Hume Foundation and Peace Summit Partnership will host the second Quiet Peacebuilders Award in Derry this morning.

The Quiet Peacebuilders Award recognises everyday peacebuilders, who during the Troubles or today, quietly and effectively promoted peace and reconciliation.

Tim Attwood, Foundation Secretary of the John & Pat Hume Foundation said: “Many of our most tireless advocates for reconciliation and building on our shared peace take place within our communities and on our streets every day. It is important that we recognise the work and courage of those who have delivered, and continue to deliver, on peacebuilding and reconciliation within our society.”

Mr Attwood added: “We are also delighted to be joined Dr Ali Shaar MD, the Director of the Palestinian Child Institute, who has travelled from the Middle East in very challenging circumstances. In a world which is plagued by vicious conflicts, it is a great source inspirational to learn of Dr Ali’s work on the impact of war and conflict on children and women, especially the work of the Early Childhood Peace Consortium."

There will also be a panel conversation on Peace and Reconciliation with Dr Siobhan Fitzpatrick, Vice Chair and Founder member of the Early Childhood Peace Consortia, Ivy Goddard, the Ballymena Inter Ethnic Forum, Eamon McCann and Denise Hughes, Mediator, Restorative Justice Practitioner and Peacebuilder.
