A large crowd gathered at the scene of this afternoon's incident in Limavady.
Police have arrested two men following an altercation in Limavady today, Sunday, March 22.
Inspector Dalzell said: “Officers attended the scene and arrested one man, aged in his 20s, on suspicion of assault on police, resisting arrest and theft.
“A second man, also aged in his 20s, made off from the scene and barricaded himself inside a property in the Glenview area and armed himself with a broken bottle.
“After a short while, officers entered the property and specially trained officers were tasked and a Conducted Energy Device (CED) was deployed to prevent the male from harming himself. He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, assault on police, disorderly behaviour, and theft.
“An officer was assaulted during the incident, and had to go to hospital for treatment of injuries to his face.
“A woman was also taken to hospital for treatment to injuries that are not thought to be serious at this time.
“Police enquiries remain ongoing this afternoon, and officers would appeal to anyone with any information, including any mobile phone footage or CCTV, which might assist, to get in touch.
