The opportunity that reunification provides to improve healthcare across the island of Ireland will be the focus of a community discussion to take place in the city, it has been confirmed.

The event has been organised by Think 32, an Irish unity lobby group established to encourage the conversation on constitutional change.

It will take place in the Creggan Neighbourhood Partnership at 7pm on Monday, March 23, 2026.

Chairing the event will be Creggan-based community activist Ché MacMaonghail.

The panel will be made up of Professor Colin Harvey, Dr Tom Black and Edel O’Doherty Developing Healthy Communities.

A spokesperson from Think 32 said: "We feel that planning and preparation for a New Ireland must begin now, in particular, within the Irish Government.

“Since Brexit the problems with partition have increased and this is having an impact on many sectors within our society, and the conversations around the future of our island are well and truly underway," they added.

“We believe that the solution to these problems lies with the ending of partition.

“This panel discussion will allow us to explore what the health system could look like in a New Ireland, with people who have extensive knowledge of the health system as part of our panel.

“We would like to encourage people to come along and have their views heard.”
