The Martin McGuinness Peace Foundation is planning to erect a permanent memorial to Martin in his home city, it has been confirmed.

Announcing the project with the Mayor of Derry and Strabane Ruairí McHugh, Foundation spokesperson Aidan McAteer said: "The Foundation plans a permanent memorial to Martin in his home city of Derry. We want to thank the Mayor for taking the time to join us today in announcing this important project to celebrate Martin’s life and the enormous contribution he made.

“We are still in the early stages of development, but this will be a fitting and permanent tribute to Martin who dedicated his life to making this city and this country a better place for future generations," added Mr McAteer.

“Next year marks the tenth anniversary of Martin’s untimely passing so 2027 will be a fitting year to unveil this permanent memorial.

“We will be meeting with a range of people over the coming months as the plans progress and will also be launching a campaign to raise the required funds.

“As ever we thank the people of Derry and across the island and beyond for their ongoing support of the Foundation’s work and we would encourage people to look out for updates on our website and social media.”
