Man charged with possession of indecent child images at Derry Court

The man who cannot be named was also charged with encouraging the taking of an indecent image of a child

A man has appeared at Derry Derry Magistrate's Court today charged with possessing an indecent image of a child.

The man who cannot be named in order to protect the identity of the alleged victim in the case was charged with attempted possession of an indecent image of a child on a date between September 3 and September 17 last year.

He was also charged with encouraging the taking of an indecent image of a child on the same dates.

A police officer connected the accused to the charges.

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said that some time would be required but he was not aware of how long.

A prosecutor said that due to the seriousness of the charges the file could take some time.

The man will appear again on May 13.
