Derry Court
A man who was doing deliveries on Christmas Eve was detected driving at 106mph Derry Magistrate's Court heard today.
Connlaoth McElhone (28) of Greenvale Park in Magherafelt appeared charged with speeding on the Glenshane Road on December 24 last.
The court heard that police observed a vehicle being driven at speed and followed it and the vehicle was detected at times travelling at 106mph.
Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said that on the day his client was doing deliveries and was in 'a bit of a rush'.
He said his speed had crept up on a quiet stretch of road.

District Judge Ted Magill said that the speed was 'far too high'.
He said for McElhone's sake and for the sake of anyone else 'who might get anywhere near that speed' a disqualification was necessary.
McElhone was disqualified for one month and fined £300.
