Serving PSNI officer to contest fraud charges in Derry Court trial

A serving member of the PSNI will contest six charges of fraud by false representation in April Derry Magistrate's Court heard today. 

Paul Melarkey (47) whose address was given as PSNI Knock in Belfast faces six charges of fraud by false representation in relation to overtime payments. 

The offences were said to have occurred on dates between February 10 2024 and December 30 2024.

The court was told that the case was likely to last half a day and that there were 7 police officers required. 

Defence counsel Kieran Roddy said that there were 'investigations' going on in the background in reference to the defence case.

A date was fixed for contest for April 28 with case being reviewed on February 4.

Melarkey did not appear for today's hearing.
