Derry Magistrate's Court

A man has been sentenced at Derry Magistrate's Court for assaulting an ambulance worker.

Kielan Stevenson (26) of Duncreggan Road in Derry was charged with the offences that occurred on May 9 last year.

Police were initially called by paramedics to the scene of a possible assault and found Stevenson on the ground being treated by ambulance workers.

He was said to be intoxicated and was shouting at the paramedics 'I will f****** end you' and spitting in their direction.

He was subsequently arrested and when questioned, claimed to have no memory of the incident.

Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said that Stevenson had pleaded guilty to the charge and had been given a suspended sentence last month for a different offence.

He was sentenced to five months in custody, suspended for two years.
